Step off the beaten path and immerse yourself in the untouched charm of Naxos' mainland, where time seems to stand still. The island's serene green valleys, picturesque villages, and warm-hearted locals reveal why Naxos is often regarded as Greece's best-kept secret.
Your journey begins in the village of Damalas, home to a remarkable 16th-century olive press, where you will travel back in time and discover the ancient traditions of olive oil production. Then, we head to the charming village of Halki, once the thriving cultural and trade hub of the island 60 years ago, where you will soak in the historical atmosphere.
Next, explore the old market of Fasolas in Filoti, a wonderfully preserved neighborhood that offers a glimpse into life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with shops carefully restored to reflect their two-century-old heritage. From there, we will continue to the mountain village of Apiranthos, proudly known by its residents as the most traditional village on Naxos, where culture and history blend seamlessly.
The tour culminates with a visit to the sacred Temple of Demeter (except for Tuesdays), an awe-inspiring monument dedicated to the goddess of agriculture and harvest. Built in the 6th century B.C., it predates even the Parthenon, offering a fascinating glimpse into the island's ancient past.
