After arriving at the small port of Athinios, which is close to the center of the island unlike the ferry port, an airconditioned and comfortable mini-bus will be waiting for you with a guide who will give you valuable information about the island in Greek, English, French and Italian.
On this cruise you will spend almost 5.5 hours at the island's capital Fira, located in the middle of the island, opposite the sleeping volcano. Fira has a unique natural beauty and is the most cosmopolitan place on the island. Apart from the museums and galleries like the Archaeological Museum of Thera, the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, the Art of The Loom Gallery and Orion Art Gallery, Fira boasts many cafes, restaurants and shops.
You can take enjoy your lunch at one of the island's excellent restaurants and taverns (not included in the price) with breathtaking views over the caldera. Your guide will give you advice about where to visit and will give a set time to gather back at the bus for your return.
The Museum of Prehistoric Thera is particularly worth visiting and offers an amazing insight into the advanced Minoan culture that existed on the island and has led to a global consensus that Santorini was most likely the source for legend of Atlantis. Here you will find amazingly preserved frescos from the archaeological site of Akrotiri.
If you haven't visited before, Santorini is not to be missed - it is by far one of the most beautiful and captivating Greek islands.

The bus takes you to two locations (Oia and Fira) but you have plenty of time on your own to go about your business. Our tour-guide on the bus was very informative and polite with suggestions about spots to grab lunch and coffee. I would have preferred to stay for the sunset but I guess you need to stay overnight for that. Next time 🙂
This is a simple excursion which is 100 percent my style. You take the boat. Get off. Do what you want. Go where you want and come back at a certain time that everyone is clear about. The boat was big and felt safe. We've been on smaller ferries. Would recommend to anybody that likes doing there own thing on vacation.
