This captivating circular hike takes you through the heart of Tinos' mainland, weaving through nine picturesque villages, each with its own charm and history. The route showcases a rich tapestry of landscapes, from verdant valleys and historic ruins to traditional settlements nestled among rolling hills.
Your journey begins in Komi, one of the island's largest and most vibrant villages, known for its fertile plains where the famous Tinian artichoke is cultivated. Leaving Komi behind, you make your way to Perastra, a small and tranquil village surrounded by dense vegetation, where time seems to stand still.
The path then ascends toward Krokos, leading you past a series of traditional watermills, elegant dovecotes, and the atmospheric ruins of the medieval village of Lazaros. These remnants of the past whisper stories of a bygone era, adding a sense of mystery to your hike.
Continuing uphill, you reach the villages of Skalados and Koumaros, both perched on the slopes of Exomvourgo, the island's second-highest peak. Here, you will visit the impressive ruins of the Venetian castle, a once-mighty fortress that offers breathtaking panoramic views over Tinos and the surrounding Aegean Sea.
From this high vantage point, the route begins its descent, leading you through the charming villages of Xinara, Kampos, and Smardakito, where whitewashed houses, lush courtyards, and quiet squares invite you to pause and take in the serene atmosphere. Eventually, the trail brings you full circle, returning to your starting point in Komi.
This hike is classified as moderate, with a total distance of 12 kilometers (7.46 miles).
