This unique hike takes you deep into the heart of the Marble Villages of Tinos, where every building is constructed from the island's iconic stone and marble.
You will journey through the landscapes that inspired countless famous artists, including Yiannoulis Halepas, the renowned sculptor born in this very village.
Your adventure begins with a stroll through the narrow alleys of Pyrgos village, where marble is omnipresent, creating a truly distinctive atmosphere. During your visit, you will explore the Marble Museum, where you can learn about the island's rich marble heritage. Afterward, take a moment to relax in the village square, known for its traditional cafes serving delicious local sweets.
Pyrgos is deeply connected to the art of marble. It is here that many of local sculptors crafted their masterpieces, and it was also where entire generations were 'sculpted' by their work with marble, which provided their livelihood. Over the centuries, vast quantities of Tinian marble have been exported across the Mediterranean, and many of the island's sculptors ventured far from home seeking better opportunities.
Following your break, the hike continues toward Panormos, a picturesque bay surrounded by several traditional fish taverns. In Medieval times, Panormos was one of the four principal ports of Tinos, serving as a bustling trade hub.
From there, you will head to the stunning Rohari beach, a perfect spot to relax, before making your way uphill back to Pyrgos.
This hike is classified as moderate, with a total distance of 7 kilometers (4.35 miles).
