Your host Helen returned to Naxos after three decades in New York to fulfill a lifelong dream: to build a sustainable, elegant retreat near her ancestral village of Moni. Perched at 500 meters above sea level and surrounded by ancient olive groves, ELaiolithos is a tribute to local culture, nature, and craftsmanship. From handmade decor to regional ingredients, every detail reflects Helen's deep connection to the land and her desire to share the true spirit of Naxos.
Immerse yourself in the rich heritage of Naxian craftsmanship with a hands-on textiles handloom weaving class at a Helen's sustainable hotel. This engaging workshop offers a rare opportunity to witness and participate in traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations.
Set amid the natural beauty and cultural authenticity of the region, learn how 100% cotton textiles are meticulously crafted using sustainable methods. Under the guidance of skilled local artisans, you will not only observe but also try your hand at weaving on a traditional handloom.
Feel the textures, patterns, and rhythms that define this revered Naxian art form. This class is perfect for anyone eager to connect with local culture, explore artistic expression, and create meaningful memories.

We normally book "hands on" activities when going to new places because we believe it's one of the better methods to get to know a place "behind the curtain" and while Helen isn't originally from the island, this one of the best lessons we have. Our creations weren't much to write home about lol but we really got a new appreciation of the artistry (and time!) required to create the beautiful art that is made here (yes it is art).
