Immerse yourselves in the authentic art of traditional pottery with a private workshop hosted by Mr. Manolis Limpertas in the village of Damalas. This unique experience is designed for individuals or small groups of up to four people and offers a rare opportunity to connect with the island's deep-rooted ceramic heritage.
Mr. Manolis is a fourth-generation ceramist, continuing the legacy of his family who originated from the island of Sifnos and brought their craft to Naxos over a century ago. As the only active Sifnian potter on the island today, he keeps ancient techniques and traditional forms alive in his charming workshop.
Your visit begins with a guided introduction to his extensive collection of handmade pottery. Each piece reflects shapes and uses from daily life in the past: cooking, storing, decorating, and more. Mr. Manolis will share stories of his ancestors and the role pottery has played in Naxian culture. You will also learn about the history of Damalas, a village blessed with natural clay-rich soil that has supported pottery-making for centuries.
After this fascinating introduction, you will be invited to roll up your sleeves and create your own ceramics. Whether you are experienced or completely new to pottery, you will enjoy working at the wheel under Manolis's expert and friendly guidance. The workshop is suitable for all ages and offers a chance to create Naxian-style pieces, either functional or decorative.
At the end of your session, you will have the option to browse and purchase from a curated selection of handcrafted ceramic treasures. These include Raku pieces, traditional utensils, and special items like Pythagoras's cup - also known as the "cup of justice". Every piece reflects the authentic character of Naxos and makes for a meaningful souvenir.
This is an experience not to miss - joyful, creative, and deeply connected to local culture.
